In pictures, all is not as it seems.
She is smiling and happy
but inside she’s really
coming apart at the seams.
You never really know do you.
You never really know
and you can’t judge
by the face that they show,
designer garments they wear;
the smile of pretense
or that devil-may-care,
breezy attitude.
When the lights are low
and the moon is high
only the good lord knows
what’s at unrest inside;
a soul reaches out to the universe
cries and pleads,
in total immersion
in its own self doubt,
and unmet needs
just trying to figure life out.
Maybe in pictures there’s a
fantasy of a beautiful young girl
in her prime, and in her glory
who has ‘everything’ to live for,
but underneath the beauty
there’s another lost and frightened soul.
