Since the invention of paper by the Chinese in 105 AD, the paper has been harnessed by humanity in many ways. At the office, at school, in malls, on airplanes and even in the comfortable rooms, there is paper in many forms and uses. This is really quite amazing to know that one of the first uses of paper in China was used for a medium for cutting shapes and forms.
During the dynasty of North and South (386-581 AD), cut intricate paper has become a tradition. This was the beginning of the art of China Paper Cutting called Jian Zhi. The first practitioners of the art represented in their creations paper cutting their simple lives, their aspirations and beliefs. A favorite subject are objects that are symbols of good fortune and happiness. These paper cutouts when used by people to decorate their homes during the holidays and even used by women as hair ornaments during the Tang Dynasty.

This is equivalent to having a Christmas tree and the mistletoe at home for the Christmas holidays in Western world.
