James Joyce (1882-1941) was born in Dublin. In addition to WB Yeats and George Bernard Shaw, he formed the trio. Joyce's novel, "Portrait of Youngman" is very popular novel, "Dubliners" (1905) his first book. This collection of short stories. His other important works are "Ulysses (1922)," Finnegan's Lake "(1939).
"Araby" by James Joyce is a great and favorite short story of all time. "Araby" can be criticized on various aspects. It is the story of a boy. James Joyce pregnated the theme of his history with different symbolic connotations, it creates the real world. In the real world, each person must cope with frustration, discontent, hatred, love, reality. That is the truth and universal. "Araby" is about dreams, happiness, realism, dark and dull in the world.
The little hero of the story in the dull life around Dublin. From the beginning of history we come to know that the boy adoration secret for a girl. She is the sister of the young hero's friend Mangan. The boy has a passion for deep and pure woman of his dreams. He eagerly awaits each day for a glimpse of the girl. But the boy is never a chance to talk with his sweetheart. It still bears the image of the girl. It can not forget his name for a moment. He describes his condition in the following words: "I thought I was carrying the chalice safely through host of enemies "
The young hero pining for the beauty and love of the girl. Very co-incidentally the girl speaks the boy. It is high time for the boy. The girl speaks of "Saudi", a great fest, is the dream that is full of glamor and grandeur. For the boy it is a double pleasure. First his dream girl talk with her and secondly, he is amazed by the "place Araby." It is another case for the young romantic hero.
He wants to visit this land of dreams with his daughter. But it may not be able to accompany her, as she retirement at his monastery. The boy promises that he will bring some gifts for her this beautiful place called — Araby. The young hero, now wants to memorize these few moments, the sweat and little phrases they exchanged. This is the only major work for the boy. And secondly he wants to go the magical place called Araby. He waits anxiously for the day when he will go to Araby. He is very enthusiastic and full of thrills. He is very happy it is finally on the road to his dream destination.
But due to some delay, Araby has reached a very difficult time. When he reached the place at that time most of the stalls are closed and also the great part of the gala is over in the dark. It may not be able taste of the glamor and grandeur of the place of his dreams. He noted that all dreams shatter before his eyes and he could not do anything to keep his dreams. There is a darkness Total in the room. He discovers the place is only for commercial purposes. And in a place neither his dream nor his love can stand strong. He left the way to anger and frustration. The place has no charm for him. He discovered that this place is much lower. It may not be able to match the place of his dreams with the actual place where it is located.
The place is basically room for negotiation and purchase of various products. In such a place all his dreams come crashing down. Before coming to the place he is in the dream world. In this world, he finds the girl and Araby. But From now he can see the hard core reality is harsh. He feels frustrated and this frustration is universal. It is located in the heart of man. Everyone wants without leaving the grim reality, but it fails. Failure, frustration, mechanically, anger, anxiety are all Universal diseases of every man.
Joyce very well and easily through the boy took the idea of living today. It uses different images and symbols to show the universal experience of this universe. Herein lies the simplicity of life to Joyce and his approach to life. With the love relationship between the boy and the girl he focuses on the point of what we want sometimes we do not the one you want and be the most wanted in our lives. Then only we suffer frustration.
