I understand the sale and import of imitation samurai swords are now illegal in the United Kingdom. If you are caught in an import or sell the one you facing a large fine and possible imprisonment. But wait it then says that if you are a practicing martial artist or serious collector, you can always buy the real thing? The problem is who says where the arts are allowed to participate? If you are a licensed martial artist like me, how do you prove? Do you send copies of your weapons license? And if so where? The police? Suppliers? And who defines what is a serious collector? Does someone buying real swords or a person who buys antiques? Following confusion, it does not say if its illegal to possess one or the other? I welcome this ban i really do. There was a sword shop where I saw the sale of these replicas for every Tom, Dick and Harry. However, my store Local martial arts has lifted all samurai swords both real and replica of his shop and he has sold weapons to licensed practitioners! On a very sad note, I just read the headline news of 3 children being stabbed by their parents. This prohibition will not prevent strokes knife only greater sentences can.
