Fantasy Wars Patch

An anonymous source has apparently told VG247 that the PlayStation 3 from Sony is for a radical overhaul of the interface of a pre-coming updating firmware holiday. PS3 Firmware 3.0 (v2.8 was just Released) will be "a completely new system," wrote the site, quoting the source called the update "a huge overhaul," comparable to the Xbox experience Microsoft's New "in some respects."
According to the source, new features include a mechanism for evaluation of other players (something the Xbox 360 had since launch), an option for players to report disruptive Sony and submit screenshots of their heinous acts, the option to download patches in the background, and the ability to output HDMI video and optical digital audio simultaneously.
VG247 claims they were told "a much ", but is not disclosing what all this could be. If I had to guess, given recent rumors, planning, Sony will debut a thinner, cheaper, more fully-featured PS3 as we move towards the holidays. Do not call it a total makeover, but enough for a transition to turn heads and pick up sales during a sales period crucial. We're halfway through the life cycle these systems, and Sony has done very poorly by the standards of almost anybody (especially hers). She clearly needs some major victories, and fast.
What will help you: Uncharted 2, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and MAG – all PS3 exclusives, all due this year.
That is not Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, the last keeper and Final Fantasy XIII while both exclusives in 2009, now bumped to 2010.
And then there's what's missing in the firmware list VG247. Where is the opportunity go back and play PlayStation 2 games? What About Global voice chat? Compatibility social media, including Twitter and Facebook integration? Invisible (and radically faster) synchronization trophy?
PS3 owners: Am I expecting too much? What new features that interest you most?
UPDATE: Sony Computer Entertainment America Director of Corporate Communications Patrick Seybold contacted me to say that history is, in fact, unfounded. "These rumors are completely untrue," he wrote, adding that "nothing has been announced or confirmed for PlayStation firmware, and it is only wild speculation. "
