During the first research on how to write a book of fiction, the first thing you have to do, even before plotting, characterization, etc., is to decide what kind of novel that will be.

Will it be a mystery, suspense / thriller, romance, action, fantasy, paranormal, historical, western, horror, science fiction, or other?

The first thing to consider is what type of books do you read normally and what kind? Many people you may say to go where the money is, ie if the book sales vampires are through the roof, writing a vampire book. It may sound logical, but this is not the best idea for several reasons.

One reason is, I doubt very seriously that someone who never reads books vampire who happens to be able to write a novel credible in this genre. Of course, you can go out and buy a bunch of books and read them, but why make things so difficult?

Think about that section of the library you normally head when you go shopping for something new to read. If you avoid the romance section as the plate, please do not consider writing romantic fiction.

Bottom line is, stick with areas that interest you and you have the easiest time of writing. After all, in all genres there are many sub-genres to explore. Say you happen to be a reader of fiction. Your story could be historical romance, time travel, paranormal, fantasy, and yes, same vampire.

Similarly, readers can delve into the mystery thriller / mystery, science fiction and / or horror. You must simply decide what you like to read and write a similar book.
